Cuneiform Impressions

Students in Mrs. Simmons' Social Studies class had the opportunity to create cuneiform impressions today. Students received a ball of clay, approximately the size of a ping pong ball and a chopstick with one tip whittled to a triangle and the other end shaved down to represent a dash. Using the cuneiform alphabet, students practiced their ancient writing skills using the technology available to Ancient Mesopotamians. Students embraced the challenge and made some wonderful tablets. This is the first year I've done this project with students and they went above and beyond my expectations. Great work everyone!!

Prepping the materials for this project was a little time consuming, but well worth it!Students were deep in thought s they worked on their tablets. Some were worried their letters wouldn't fit on their tablets, but worked until they got it right!I wonder what this one says...Working with friends is so much better than working alone!
