Mrs. Francis and Mrs. Iskrzycki's classes have been doing a fun project that involved “reducing, reusing, and recycling” items from their student's homes! Each student made a Chia Pet and decorated it with old items that they could find from home that they no longer needed/used. Shout out to Livingston County Environmental Association that provided each class with many of the materials needed for this project (dirt, grass seeds, etc.). Everyone has really been enjoying this project and looking forward each morning to see how much their "pet's hair" has grown!

Today Washington Elementary, Pontiac School District 429 had the pleasure of hosting Marlon Eilts - COUNTRY Financial. Our Enrichment Committee reached out to Marlon to see if he could come teach our students about insurance, and he along with Brittney sure delivered. Students played a hands-on game with poker chips, cards, and dice, where they saw the effects of insurance over a couple of years. The game that he created was a HUGE success and helped with the mastery of what insurance is. This also was a great start to the whole school economics unit. Thanks Marlon! You and your staff are always welcome here at Washington 🙂.

Who is ready for some Trivia? You can still join the fun by walking in for the event! We can't wait for this PTO hosted fun!

March's students of the month were chosen because they are individuals who show perseverance in the classroom. Way to stick with it even when things get tough! Top row (l-r): Kellin Carter, Jase Pshack, Camila Soto, Makenna Pennington, Henry Reiman. Front row (l-r) Serena Stephens, Mila Matic, Sadie Johnson, Kylie Newbury. Not pictured: Kaylynn Miles and Jude Bryan

We were excited and amazed at how cool the solar eclipse was today! Shout out to Pontiac Family Eye Care and Pontiac Public Library for donating the ISO approved safety glasses for all of us!

Washington School Families -
Washington Elementary School 4th grade and 5th grade students will soon be diving right into our economics unit in Social Studies. We will be ending the unit with an application activity where all the students will be creating a product, selling this product, making an income, and buying other products, which is our annual Market Day. The day is truly one of our favorites and the kids really love it. We are in need of some items to make this day go off without a hitch. Below is a link to our Sign Up Genius with all the items that we need for products for the ENTIRE fourth and fifth grade classes. Please sign up and have these items in by Monday, April 22, or sooner if possible. We are also collecting paper towel rolls or toilet paper rolls and egg cartons so save them at home and send those in as well. Market Day is scheduled for May 28, and we promise to share pictures and commercials for this fantastic event. Thank you in advance for your help as this wouldn't be possible without it!

4th and 5th graders took a trip into outer space thanks to the awesome ⭐️Star Lab ⭐️from U of I Extension McLean County STEAM in the Classroom! Students were able to learn about how the moon 🌝 changes into different phases, and how solar and lunar eclipses work. All of the students loved the experience, and thought it was cool to go into the gigantic dome. We are pumped for the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th! Make sure to turn in your child's permission form in by Friday, April 5th!

"Ms. Zega and Mrs. Edinger's class have been getting into the March Madness spirit! They have spent the month of March doing a March Madness Tournament of Books. Each day the students would listen to the 2 stories of the day and vote on their favorite. The final four included We Do Not Eat Our Classmates, A Tale of Two Beasts, Orion and the Dark, and Do Not Open This Book. Today we finished the tournament and crowned the winner, We Do Not Eat Our Classmates!"

Mrs. Farley's class would like to thank Domino's Pizza in Pontiac for the generous and delicious pizza donation! Our class met our goals and decided to celebrate with a pizza party; when Domino's offered to donate the pizzas we thought it was a perfect example of the rewards that come when you work hard and achieve a goal! Thank you again for your kindness, Domino's!
